SARS and flu cases are currently at an all-time high In Kyrgyzstan now. Clinics in the capital are even admitting patients on weekends due to increasing respiratory illnesses among children. Against the background of this news, parents of children with cancer are worried about how to protect a severely weakened organism. Can children with cancer be vaccinated? With these questions, we turned to Sultan Stambekov, the head of the oncology department of the National Center for Maternity and Child Care.
- The parents of our protégé are concerned: can their children receive a flu vaccine?
-It is possible. But there are nuances. Leukaemia patients cannot make "live" vaccines until they are cured and a certain amount of time has passed."Non-live" vaccines can already be considered as vaccinations. Now the issue of COVID -19 vaccination is being seriously considered. If there is reliable evidence that using these two vaccines reduces the incidence of disease and death in cancer patients, we will vaccinate them.
Cancer patients have reduced immunity, that’s why they are at risk during seasonal outbreaks. Therefore, vaccination can protect them from the flu. But we must remember, that any vaccination is carried out according to a particular schedule determined by doctors.
