This important date came into being in 2001 at the initiative of Childhood Cancer International (CCI). The main aim is to raise public awareness of the high child mortality caused by this disease. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 400,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer annually. At the same time, about 100,000 children die of cancer every hour.
"It is scary when paediatric oncology comes into the family. A happy joyful child starts fading before our eyes. In the oncology ward, there is no loud child laughter, no fun child games, only frightened children who are very afraid not to come home. We are committed to helping as many cancer patients as possible get well again. Often a child's life depends on a timely diagnosis or expensive medication. Thank you to all our friends, volunteers and donors who help us save children's lives," says Dina Makarenko, director of the "Sun of Hope" public fund.
It is monstrous when a deadly disease robs childhood, brings suffering and tries to destroy the life that has just begun. We have developed and are actively implementing the Life Advice project to help seriously ill children whose lives depend on expensive tests, medications and treatments. Every child has the right to a healthy childhood. All children should have the opportunity to take advantage of the chance to be cured, regardless of the family's financial situation.
Let us work together to give children a healthy childhood!
May your homes always be filled with peace, prosperity, good health and the warmth of your family and friends. May this joyful festival fill your hearts with kindness, compassion and gratitude.
